Recently, the much-awaited 5G launch took place at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, which was inaugurated by our Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. I got the opportunity to represent the Balaji Institute of Modern Management, Sri Balaji University, Pune at the event.
There were multiple sessions happening at every corner. I feel privileged that I got the chance to attend the session conducted by IMC (Indian Mobile Congress) 2022. There was a session presided over by the current Indian Army Chief, Gen. Manoj Pande, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, and ADC.
The General shed insights upon the 5G technology revolution and how it will make India self-reliant in manufacturing weapons, which would be completely Made-in-India weapons. The 5G technology along with the assisted weapons and drones will facilitate a more vigilant surveillance on our two most important frontiers.
He mentioned South Korea in his speech describing that the Koreans were the first to come up with 5G technologies in early 2019 and now we can see the progress they have made. With the 5G technology, we can also have an upper hand in manufacturing our own 5th generation fighter jets which can ultimately give neck-to-neck competition to the American F-16s.
The weapons would be Artificial Intelligence (AI) operated and would not even require a soldier to operate them on the battlefield, he/she can operate it away from a few miles sitting at a safer place, and the machine doing the rest of the job
The General also spoke about the introduction of AI in the forces, which will change the course of warfare making it more advanced warfare. Since the last few years, we along our borders have seen infringement of international rights, especially the Chinese aggression and cross-border terrorism by Pakistan. Employing such technology in these areas would be a major task not only for the Indian Army but also for the Government of India since we have observed a lot of internet shutdowns in the valley to cease the spread of misinformation amongst the general (volatile) population.
“But the General said they have got a plan for the layout of 5G technologies and its induction in the forces and that they are in constant talks with the government for the same but other information could not be given at that moment of time because of national interests”.
